In South Ossetia on Sunday, at 8 am, polling stations opened, the presidential elections have started.
As the CEC Secretary Kristina Avlokhova told the “Res” news agency, “the activity of voters is observed at the polling stations, according to the information coming from the polling stations from the remote villages, the voting process has begun there.”
Ministry of Internal Affairs of South Ossetia is serving in an enhanced version. All polling stations of the Republic are under protection.
Five candidates are running for the post of head of the Republic. This is the fourth incumbent President Anatoly Bibilov, as well as the leader of the Nykhas party Alan Gagloev, former MP Dmitry Tasoev, MP Garry Muldarov and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Alexander Pliev.
A total of 76 polling stations will be opened. They will work in Tskhinval, as well as in all four districts of South Ossetia - Tskhinval, Dzau, Znaur and Leningor. In addition, two polling stations will operating in North Ossetia, one each in Moscow and Sukhum. The CEC of the Republic printed 40,000 ballots. More than 32,000 voters are registered in the country.
The polling stations will close at 20:00 Sunday. Elections can be considered to have taken place with a turnout of more than 50% of voters. To win in the first round, one of the candidates needs to get more than half of the votes.
The elections will be monitored by foreign observers - from Russia, the DPR, the LPR, Abkhazia, Austria, Venezuela, Syria, Nagorno-Karabakh, Nicaragua, Italy, Turkey and others. 65 observers received accreditation for the elections.
To cover the preliminary results of the voting and the results of the elections in Tskhinval, the CEC information center will open at 9 am. The first briefing by the CEC head Emilia Gagiyeva is scheduled for 10:00.
