South Ossetia is an important partner and ally of Russia, Vladimir Putin said after talks with Anatoly Bibilov.
During today's meeting of the leaders of Russia and South Ossetia, the sides exchanged views on topical issues of regional issues and also discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation.
"We agreed to coordinate more closely the steps in counteraction to security challenges and threats in Transcaucasia, as well as continue the most intimate interaction in the fight against terrorism and organized crime," - the President of the Russian Federation said.
According to Vladimir Putin, Russia is supporting the establishment of South Ossetia as a sovereign democratic state, contributing to the reliable provision of its security.
"Cooperation between our countries rests on a solid foundation of friendship and good-neighborliness," - the Kremlin press service quotes the Russian leader1s saying.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry drew attention to the danger of activating the NATO bloc in the Transcaucasia, assessing the further deepening of cooperation between Georgia and NATO as a real threat to regional security.
"The military infrastructure of the alliance is developing on the Georgian territory, military exercises are regularly held, the scale of which is increasing every year, the NATO standards of the armed forces are being introduced and their management is being implemented. All this threatens to seriously destabilizing the situation in Transcaucasia and threatens the security of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Abkhazia and the Republic of South Ossetia," - the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
