South Ossetia will host commemorative events for the 16th anniversary of the August 2008 war.
As reported to IA "Res" by the Republican commission for the preparation and holding of state-significant events, on August 7, the state drama theater will host a performance of the play "The Last Witness" and the opening of the photo exhibition "08.08.08 - 08.08.24".
"On the evening of August 7, at 22:00, a solemn mourning ceremony will be held at the memorial complex "To the Defenders of South Ossetia" on Makharbek Tuganov Street in Tskhinval," the commission has noted.
As noted by the agency's interlocutor, the memorial services for the victims of the August war will be held in the Republic's churches on Thursday, August 8.
"Also on August 8, a ceremony of laying flowers at the places where the defenders of Ossetia died will be held," the commission has added.
The agency's interlocutor has noted that the father of Sergei Ivanov, a hero who perished in August 2008, will take part in the mourning events in Tskhinval.
In South Ossetia, state flags will be lowered on August 7 and 8 in memory of the victims of the August 2008 war.
