Chairman of the Government of South Ossetia Konstantin Dzhussaev has received Sergei and Daria Ivanov, father and sister of Alexei Ivanov, the Russian soldier who heroically died during the military aggression of Georgia in August 2008, the press service of the executive body reports.

The meeting was attended by the State Advisor to the President Batraz Begizov.

The family of Alexei Ivanov came from Krasnodar to visit the place of his death and take part in the commemorative events dedicated to the 16th anniversary of the war “08.08.08”.

Konstantin Dzhussoev warmly welcomed the guests and noted that South Ossetia would never forget the feat of Alexei Ivanov.

“The war of August 2008 is a huge tragedy for our entire people and the unhealed wound. Residents of South Ossetia know how to lose their loved ones, remember and appreciate everyone who was with us in the difficult moments, defended peace on our land. The feat of Alexei is an example of selfless service to the Motherland and fidelity to military duty. His name will be in our hearts forever,”Konstantin Dzhussoev has emphasized.

The Prime Minister noted that he would always be glad to meet with the family of Alexei, and expressed his readiness to help and support in any life circumstances.

Sergei Ivanov cordially thanked Konstantin Dzhussaev for the warm welcome and noted that he was touched by attention from the leadership of the Republic.

"This is the tenth time I have come to South Ossetia and every time I feel the good-nature and warmth from the people. Your attention is important to us, and we are grateful to all our friends in South Ossetia," Sergei Ivanov said.

During the meeting, he shared with the Prime Minister of the details of the life of Alexei, who was brought up in the family with Cossack traditions, with a demanding attitude to the concepts of “honor” and “duty”.

Alexei could take advantage of a delay from the army, but decided to serve. He arrived to the aid of South Ossetia as part of the units of the 58th Army on August 10, 2008 and died heroically, defending Tskhinval from the Georgian tanks. He was only 19 years old.

In the final part of the meeting, Daria presented the Prime Minister with a hand-embroidered panel depicting the coat of arms and the flag of South Ossetia, and Konstantin Dzhussoev presented memorable gifts and invited to come to Tskhinval again.
