The achieved level of interaction between South Ossetia and Russia in the defense sphere, including the presence of the Russian 4th Guards Military Base on the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia, gives the Republic the opportunity to feel safe. This was stated by President Alan Gagloev in the interview with Izvestia.
He has noted that military cooperation between South Ossetia and Russia at the current stage is developing on the basis of the interdepartmental agreement, which was concluded between the defense ministries of the two countries as part of the implementation of the 2015 Treaty of Alliance and Integration.
"According to this document, South Ossetia and Russia have formed a single defense and security space. Russia will consider any armed attack on South Ossetia as aggression against itself. This factor has a positive effect on the radical circles in Georgia, keeping them from possible provocations,” the leader of the Republic of South Ossetia said.
Gagloev has added that the agreements, also allow for the planned modernization of the Armed Forces of South Ossetia, including the logistical aspect.
