Moscow honored the memory of the Beslan tragedy victims

The Embassy of South Ossetia in Russia took part in the mourning events dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Beslan tragedy in Moscow, the press service of the diplomatic department reports.

“At 13:05 at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Kulishki (Alanskoye Podvorye), in front of the monument to the victims of the terrorist attack in Beslan, those present honored the memory of the victims with a minute of silence, after which a wreath was laid at the monument,” the press service said.

The funeral ceremony was attended by former hostages, representatives of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania to President of the Russian Federation, members of the Federation Council, deputies of the State Duma, representatives of the Moscow government, the Moscow Ossetian community, veterans of the special forces "Alpha" and "Vympel", the management and doctors of the leading medical institutions of Moscow, where the hostages were treated.

"We will never forget the courage of teachers, law enforcement officers, rescuers and ordinary citizens who stood up for the children and did everything possible to help the victims. With pain in our hearts, we are remembering the events of those terrible days and express our deep condolences to the friends and relatives of the victims," ​​ the statement of the South Ossetian Embassy in Russia reads.

In the Russian Federation, September 3 is the Day of Solidarity in the Fight against Terrorism, established in memory of the tragic events in Beslan on September 1-3, 2004.

On September 1, 2004, terrorists were holding 1,128 hostages in the gym of the Beslan School for three days. On September 3 at 1:15 p.m. the first explosion thundered in the school gym.

As a result of the terrorist attack, 334 people were killed. Among the dead were 186 children aged from one to 17 years old, 17 school employees.

10 FSB officers, 2 representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and one employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were also killed. Another 117 victims were relatives and friends of the schoolchildren who came to congratulate them on the Knowledge Day. More than 800 people were injured, 72 children became disabled.

This terrorist attack became the largest in the history of Russia in terms of the number of victims and remains so to this day.
