The issue of the possibility of South Ossetia joining BRICS as an observer is complex and multifaceted, State Advisor to the President Batraz Begizov has noted.

He has reminded that the South Ossetian athletes had the opportunity to take part in the BRICS games in June of this year, which once again confirms the role of Russia, which is chairing the group in 2024, in supporting the republic on the international track.

“Based on the importance of finding possible formats for participation in the events held under the auspices of the organization, including in sports areas, South Ossetia is trying to become a self-sufficient country with the active support of the Russian Federation. This will provide the opportunity to demonstrate its importance as a partner and participant in the international processes, which over time will help to consider its participation in such multilateral formations as BRICS, even in a limited form," Begizov said.

According to the State Adviser, the key factor for South Ossetia is persistence and consistency in its foreign policy, which will undoubtedly allow the state to gradually strengthen its position in the international arena and achieve the observer status in such organizations as BRICS.

Member of Parliament Alimbeg Siukaev has added that the South Ossetian athletes not only participated in the games, but also became silver and bronze medalists.

"Against the background of the politicization of the Olympic Games, the unfair attitude of the International Olympic Committee towards athletes, I believe that the BRICS Games will be the excellent replacement for the Olympics. Literally in the summer, the Olympic Games and the BRICS Games were being held, and we can compare the level of events, the attitude towards the athletes," he said.

Siukaev has expressed confidence that the BRICS Games will become future world leaders in sports.
