The statements by various political forces in Georgia regarding South Ossetia are directly related to the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 26. This is commented Yuri Vazagov, the head of the information and analytical department of the Presidential Executive Office on Bidzina Ivanishvili's words regarding the apology to the Ossetian people for 2008.

The day before, the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party Bidzina Ivanishvili said that Georgia should apologize to the Ossetians for 2008 and punish those guilty of unleashing the aggression.

According to Vazagov, the competition between the main political forces on the eve of the parliamentary elections has become very tough.

"It is obvious that the tone of the statements that are regularly voiced and will be voiced by various political forces is directly related to the context of the election cycle. South Ossetia does not interfere in the internal political processes in the neighboring country," Vazagov said.

As emphasized by the political expert, South Ossetia's position on the issues raised has been repeatedly voiced by both President Alan Gagloev and the RSO Foreign Ministry, and has not undergone any changes.

"Based on the sad experience of the Georgian-Ossetian relations, Tskhinval expects not only verbal declarations, but also practical steps, including within the framework of the Geneva discussions, where the main issue remains reaching agreements on signing a legally binding document on security guarantees. At the same time, the independence of South Ossetia cannot be a subject of discussion," Vazagov has added.
