A monument to Radislav Khugayev, a native of South Ossetia, who died during the Russian special military operation to protect civilians in the Donbass, has been unveiled in the city of Kvaysa in the Kudar Gorge.
The event was attended by the Republic's leadership, headed by President Alan Gagloev, Speaker of Parliament Alan Margiev, participants in the special operation and the guests from the Russian Federation.
The President has emphasized that Radislav Khugaev is an example for the younger generation.
"As long as this monument stands, the younger generation will never forget Radik and the guys who gave their lives for freedom and peace," Gagloyev said.
The soldier's father, Vadim Khugaev, has expressed gratitude to everyone who came to the opening of the monument.
After the opening, flowers and wreaths were laid at the monument, and singer-songwriter Albert Laliev performed a song dedicated to Radislav Khugaev.
The costs of making the five-meter monument were covered by entrepreneur and native of the Kudar Gorge Vladislav Khugaev. The authorities of South Ossetia provided assistance in installing it in the courtyard of the Kvaysa House of Culture.
Radislav Khugaev died on March 27, 2022, during the special Russian military operation in Ukraine. Having been ambushed with his colleagues, Radislav called fire on himself, thereby giving his comrades the opportunity to leave.
