The international conference on the topic "Historical memory of the genocide of the peoples of the USSR by the Third Reich during the Great Patriotic War: factual background and pseudo-history in the formation of a just world order" was held in Tskhinval.

The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of South Ossetia Alan Dzhioev, Russian Ambassador to the Republic of South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov, Foreign Minister of South Ossetia Akhsar Dzhioev, Deputy Speakers of Parliament of the Republic Zita Besaeva and Taimuraz Tadtaev, experts and historians from South Ossetia, Russia and Abkhazia.

Rector of the South Ossetian State University Vadim Tedeyev noted the importance of the conference, the significance of preserving the historical truth. He has emphasized that although the entire world knows about the contribution of the Soviet Union, about the contribution of the Soviet people to the victory in the Great Patriotic War, "there are still historians who distort this historical truth, conveying incorrect information to the younger generation."

"There are attempts at direct aggression against the historical truth. Our task is to hold as many events of this nature as possible in order to put an end to this issue once and for all. No one dares to distort the historical truth; no one dares to take away the role of the Soviet people in the fight against German fascism. Sometimes I wonder, was anyone else fighting against fascist Germany, against fascist Italy besides the Soviet Union?. The Soviet people took on the greatest burden in the victory over fascism," Tedeev said.

South Ossetian Deputy Prime Minister Alan Dzhioev has emphasized that the historical truth is extremely important in such a delicate topic as the genocide of the peoples of the Soviet Union.

Russian Ambassador to South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov, in turn, has noted that in just a few months the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people over Nazi Germany will be celebrated.

"We are indebted to our older generations, who went through a terrible war and faced the plague of the 20th century. We cannot allow the memory of those events to disappear or be erased. This war passed through every home, through every family," the Ambassador said.

Deputy Director for Research at the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of History Sergei Zhuravlev made a report on the topic "Genocide of the Soviet people by the Nazis through the prism of modern scientific knowledge", TV presenter, author of television and radio programs Alexei Bobrovsky spoke to the audience on the topic: "Examples, reasons, mechanisms of falsification of the history of the World War II in the context of the problem of the genocide of the peoples of the USSR", Deputy Head of the National Center for Historical Memory under President of the Russian Federation Ilya Sidorenko - "No statute of limitations. Historical Memory and Legal Assessment" and other experts.

The organizers of the international conference are the South Ossetian State University, the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in South Ossetia, the National Fund for Support of Social Programs of the Russian Federation, the International Institute for the Development of Communications "Mir-Most-Ossetia", and the Association "Russian Historical Society".
