Employees of the Tskhinval office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has wished the residents of the nursing home "Care" in Tskhinval happy New Year and presented them with gifts. The elderly, infirm and lonely people, living in the "Care", which is located uptown, have found themselves there by the will of fate. But they were very happy to meet the unexpected guests and with trembling hands took the gifts from the ICRC delegates, thanking them for their help and attention.

Exchange of citizens of South Ossetia, kept in prisons of Georgia, and the Georgian citizens, kept in prisons of South Ossetia, has taken place today at the state border of the Republic of South Ossetia and Georgia. Today the Central Election Committee of South Ossetia has accepted the first set of documents on nominating the candidate for Presidency of South Ossetia. She has noted that the documents were submitted by the initiative group of citizens, requesting the nomination of Igor Alborov as the candidate for president of South Ossetia in the presidential elections on March 25, 2011.

The Central Election Committee (CEC) of South Ossetia has begun preparations for the presidential elections scheduled for March 25, 2012. As reported to IA "Res" by the RSO CEC Chairman Bella Plieva, the first meeting of the Committee has been held today with its previous composition.

An act of charity, "Reach out a helping hand" on collecting money for the citizens of the Republic who are kept in the Georgian prisons for the trumped-up charges, is coming to the end in South Ossetia. As reported to IA "Res" by Head of Youth Policy Department under the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth Policy of the RSO Emilia Gagieva, the action started in October, 2011 on the initiative of her department.

The South Ossetian athletes Alan Doguzov, Marina Bagaeva and Murat Gagloev won the first two and one third place respectively in the athletics championship of North Ossetia. This has been reported to IA "Res" by the coach of the athletics school in Tskhinval Kachmazova Madina.

Measures aimed at ensuring security and stability of socio-political situation in the presidential election in South Ossetia, on March 25, 2012, were discussed at the meeting of new staff of the Security Council of the Republic, which took place on December 23 in Tskhinval.
Besides the permanent members of the Security Council, the meeting was attended by the invited members of the Russian delegation headed by Deputy Security Council Secretary of the Russian Federation Valentin Sobolev. The meeting was also attended by Assistant to the Deputy Prime Minister Gennady Bukayev, as well as Russia's ambassador to South Ossetia Elbrus Kargiev.

Alumni of judo section of the village Bekmar in Znaur District of South Ossetia Shaverdov Inal, Murat Bikoev and Arthur Jagaev won the first and two third places respectively in the open championship of the city of Vladikavkaz among the Sambo athletes, born in 2000-2003. This has been reported to IA "Res" by the coach of the athletes Dmitry Kotaev. "The competition took place in the capital of North Ossetia, December 24, 2001. Shaverdov was fighting in the weight category 26 kg. On the way to the final, he had three fights, which he defeated on points. The meeting of the Security Council of the Republic of South Ossetia headed by the Acting President of the Republic Vadim Brovtsev is being held In Tskhinval. The Russian Ambassador to the Republic of South Ossetia Elbrus Kargiev is also taking part in the meeting. B. Brovtsev has stressed that this is the first meeting of the Security Council new staff. The Security Council members approved the meeting agenda.
