The events in Ukraine had a global impact on the whole world, including South Ossetia, - Alexander Pliev, Vice-Speaker of the Republic's Parliament, told the “Res” news agency.
The parliamentarian has noted that many guys from South Ossetia are taking part in the special military operation, including volunteers and employees of the 4th Russian military base.
“Of course, when most of the youth of a small country goes to war, this affects the general situation in the country - both on the parents of these guys, and, in general, on the whole society. But we, the people who have survived 19 years of fighting fascism, understand what it is, and therefore our guys are ready to fight fascism that originated in Ukraine,” Pliev said.
The Vice-Speaker has stressed that South Ossetia played a serious role in Russia's special military operation in Ukraine.
Pliev has noted that back in 2014, South Ossetian volunteers came to the defense of Donbass, adding that they continued to defend these territories during the special military operation.
“Our guys were the first to come to the aid of the people of Donbass in 2014, and are still helping them in confronting the enemy. These are quite trained guys who have seen the war. They provided the defenders of Donbass with great tactical and training assistance. They showed by personal example what perseverance and courage are. Today, not only volunteers are participating in the special military operation, but also our guys among the military personnel of the 4th Russian military base,” Pliev said.
Thanks to Russia, the extermination of the civilian population of Donbass by Ukraine has stopped,” another Vice-Speaker of the Parliament, Vladimir Kelekhsaev, told IA “Res”.
The parliamentarian has noted that for eight years the Ukrainian authorities have been exterminating the civilian population of Donbass. According to him, the Ukrainian authorities ignored Russia's calls for a peaceful settlement of this issue.
“The leadership of the Russian Federation has repeatedly raised the issue of a peaceful settlement, but the Ukrainian authorities ignored this and acted under the dictation of Western countries. Russia could not calmly look at it. Even the special military operation is conducted in such a way as not to endanger the civilian population, but to exterminate precisely the places of stay of mercenaries, fascists,” Kelekhsaev said.
According to Kelekhsaev, the entire Soviet Union was fighting against fascism from 1941 to 1945, but, unfortunately, today fascism has begun to flourish again in Ukraine.
"Russia has paid timely attention to this and is doing everything to eradicate fascism.. I fully support the decision of the leadership of the Russian Federation to conduct the special military operation, because if fascism is not eradicated, then in the future we will have another period similar to what was happening from 1941 to 1945. It is sad that the countries that fascism once inflicted the strongest damage today close their eyes to its origin in Ukraine,” the parliamentarian has noted.
