At 8 a.m., polling stations opened in the Republic of South Ossetia. The fifth Parliamentary Election started. As reported by the Central Election Commission Chairperson Bella Plieva, “even now we observe active participation of voters”. An influx of voters is expected after 11 a.m. According to information received from polling stations in remote villages of South Ossetia, the voting process started there without any problems.”
At the threshold of RSO Parliamentary election the law enforcement bodies of South Ossetia intensified their patrolling regime, reported the RSO Interior Minister Valeri Valiev. “The law enforcement structures has beforehand set the plan of measures to ensure law and order during the Parliamentary election, and this plan is already in action. The Interior Ministry personnel on round-the-clock service has been increased, additional checkpoints had been deployed. Special units are on high alert to be able to rapidly react to any sign of breach of law”, explained Valiev.
The RSO KGB has verified information at its disposal proving that Georgia’s special services are planning subversive terrorist acts on the territory of South Ossetia aimed at destabilization of situation through the parliamentary election process. We exactly know the names of chiefs and staff of the Georgia’s Interior Ministry Intelligence Department involved in the masterminding these terrorist acts.
Today, the second meeting of the working groups within the frames of the agreements reached at Geneva talks was held in the village of Dvani (Georgia) at the borderline with South Ossetia. Representatives of South Ossetia, Georgia, EU and OSCE participated in the meeting. According to the Deputy Special Representative for Post-Conflict Settlement Merab Chigoev, the meeting was difficult and the discussion was tense.
Public announcements on the results of voting, interim and final results of the Parliamentary election will be made at the Informational Center “Parliamentary Election 2009”. Bella Plieva, the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission told this at the opening ceremony of the Center.

The meeting at the State Committee for Implementation of Rehabilitation Projects in RSO was held by the Deputy Minister of Regional Development of the RF, Chairman of the Inter-Agency Commission Roman Panov. The South Ossetian side was represented by the Chairman of the State Committee for Implementation of Rehabilitation Projects in South Ossetia Zurab Kabisov, his first Deputy Vladimir Matveev, Head of Tskhinval City Administration Rober Guliev and the Chief Engineer of « Stavropolkraigaz » Vladimir Panpurin.
Compensation are paid out to citiznes of South Ossetia affected during the Georgian aggression in August 2008, reported a source in «Sberbank» of the RSO.
« In accordance with the lists approved at the RSO Government Presidium, 36,05 mil RUR were transferred to « Sberbank » to pay out compensations to affected inhabitants of our Republic. As of today, 859 persons had received compensations out of 927 on the list», reported the source in Sberbank.
More than 50 observers from 10 states will arrive to monitor the RSO Parliamentary election on 31 May, told the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Bella Plieva.
Within the frames of the election campaign, representatives of the "People's Party" held a meeting with the population of Djava District of the RSO. The Chairman of the Party Kazimir Pliev spoke about the Party's main policy trends and the vision of the republic's future.
