President of the Republic of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity paid an official visit to Nicaragua

On 18 July 2010, the delegation of the Republic of South Ossetia headed by the President of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity arrived in Managua to participate in the celebrations devoted to the 31st anniversary of the Revolution. The invitation from the President of Nicaragua Daniel Ortega to the President of South Ossetia was received after the visit of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nicaragua Samuel Santos to South Ossetia in June.

President of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity is paying an official visit to Nicaragua

The president of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity arrived with an official visit to Nicaragua 19 July, reported the president's administration. In the airport, the delegation was met by the Foreign Minister of Nicaragua Samuel Santos. A guard of honor was lined up at the airfield. The South Ossetian delegation includes the Foreign Minister of South Ossetia Murat Djioev, the State Advisor to the President Konstantin Kochiev, RSO Ambassador in the RF Dmitry Medoev, as well as representatives the parliament and government of the Republic.

Citizens of Georgia detained in South Ossetia for illegally crossing the border

On 18 July 2010, at the attempted illegal crossing of the state border of South Ossetia with Georgia, the duty team of the Border-Guard Deparment of the RF FSB in South Ossetia detained Georgian citizens in the village of Lopan, Znaur district, reported the Border-Guard Department of the RSO KGB.
According to the information provided by the KGB, "Samkharadze Alik Yurievich, 1976, Samkharadze Besik Yurievich, 1982, Kalatozeshvili Nikoloz Shakroevich, 1983, Labadze Ramaz Petrovich, 1976, Labadze Yamze Petrovna, 1978, Khomsuridze Nargiz Arsenovna, 1967, tried to leave South Ossetia for Kareli district of Georgia bypassing the official checkpoints.

Russian Border-Guards to Provide a Helicopter for Evacuation of the Wounded

The Russian Border-guards will provide a helicopter for emergency evacuation of those injured in the road accident with the bus, which fell down to a ditch Sunday evening at the TRANSKAM main road, reported the Head of the President’s Administration Arsen Gagloev. “It was agreed wit the Border-Guard department that helicopters would be provided in case of emergency evacuations needed for those injured”, said Gagloev. According to him, the death toll reached 11; personal details are still under identification. Four persons are in grave state.

Vadim Brovtsev takes the accident investigation under his control

The Chairman of the Government of South Ossetia Vadim Brovtsev stopped his official visit to the Russian Federation and immediately returned to South Ossetia. As reported to IA RES, Vadim Brovtsev is going to take the investigation of the accident under his personal control. “The law enforcement bodies of the Republic are taking measures to investigate the reasons of the road accident resulting in many deaths. All the families of these killed in the accident will receive necessary assistance”, said Brovtsev.

The President of South Ossetia to visit Latin America

The President of the Republic of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity is departing Saturday, 17 July, to pay an official visit to Nicaragua and Venezuela, the countries, which recognized the independence of the Republic, where it is planned to sign inter-state agreement in different sectors, reported the Foreign Minister of South Ossetia Murat Djioev.

14 July – The Day of Peacekeepers in South Ossetia

The 18th anniversary of deployment of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces (JPKF) in the Zone of Georgian-Ossetian conflict is marked today in South Ossetia. The people and the authorities of the Republic of South Ossetia highly appreciated and objectively assessed the peacekeeping operation considering it as a unique example. For the people of South Ossetia, 14 July became a holiday since 1992. The trilateral peacekeeping forces were deployed in the zone of conflict on 14 July 1992 at the height of Georgian aggression.
