Bibilov: the referendum in South Ossetia is not connected with the desire to score points in the presidential election

President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov said in the interview with RIA Novosti that his initiative to hold a referendum on the Republic's entry into the Russian Federation is not connected with a desire to score points before the elections.

The presidential elections in South Ossetia will be held on April 10. Earlier, Bibilov said that consultations are underway with the Russian Federation on the issue of holding a referendum on joining Russia. It can take place after April 10th.

On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the decrees recognizing the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. South Ossetia recognized the independence of the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR back in 2014.

International press center will be opened in Tskhinval on the day of the presidential election

The International Information Center of the Central Election Commission of South Ossetia will begin its work on Sunday, April 10, Igor Chochiev, a member of the Central Election Commission of the Republic, told journalists.

"The press center will be opened on the day of the elections of the President of the Republic, where all information about the voting process both at the polling stations on the territory of the Republic and beyond its borders will be flowing," Chochiev said.

The initiative group has been created in South Ossetia to hold a referendum on joining Russia, which will apply to the Central Election Commission of the Republic with a corresponding statement, Speaker of the RSO Parliament Alan Tadtaev told reporters.

"The initiative group will submit an application to the CEC, including candidates for commissioners who, in accordance with the Constitution, will document the issue so that the date for the referendum on our Republic's entry into Russia is set.
