Information message in connection with the 102nd anniversary of the genocide of South Ossetians

In connection with the 102nd anniversary of the genocide committed against the South Ossetians by the Georgian Democratic Republic in 1920, the Embassy of the Republic of South Ossetia in Russia sent an Appeal to the diplomatic missions of foreign states accredited in Russia.

The press release says:

Russia is supporting the further development of integration between South Ossetia and the Russian Federation, and active work will continue in this direction, Konstantin Kochiev, State Advisor to the President of South Ossetia, said at the press conference in Tskhinval, following the consultations between the South Ossetian delegation and officials in Russia.

“The referendum scheduled in South Ossetia, its very idea and the issue that was submitted to the referendum, were not agreed with anyone in Russia.

The judicial act on holding the referendum was issued strictly in accordance with our current legislation, Olesya Kochiyeva, Chairwoman of the South Ossetian Supreme Court, said at the press conference in Tskhinval, following the consultations between the South Ossetian delegation and officials in Russia.

According to her, the Presidium of the Supreme Court made a unanimous decision on this issue.

According to the Treaty of Alliance and Integration between Russia and South Ossetia, the contracting parties must pursue a coordinated foreign policy, which implies mutual consideration of interests. This was stated by Acting. Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia Dmitry Medoev at the press conference in Tskhinval, following the consultations of the South Ossetian delegation with officials in Russia.

According to him, approvals should be held through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A new action group will be created in South Ossetia to prepare a referendum on joining the Russian Federation, it will include at least 20 people. This was stated to journalists on Tuesday by the head of the CEC of the Republic, Emilia Gagieva.

"Following the results of consultations with the Russian Federation, we have new work to do, with a new wording acceptable to the Russian Federation, this is most likely a new action group, which will consist of at least 20 people, in accordance with constitutional law," Gagiev said.

People of South Ossetia have been seeking historical justice for centuries, and this justice is the entry of South Ossetia into the Russian Federation and unification with North Ossetia-Alania. This was stated by Parliament Speaker Alan Tadtaev at the press conference in Tskhinval following the consultations between the South Ossetian delegation and officials in Russia.

According to him, the leadership of South Ossetia has clearly expressed its position on this issue.

The Russian party was not informed about the intention to hold a referendum in South Ossetia on the issue of unification with the Russian Federation.

As the RSO President Alan Gagloev said at the press conference in Tskhinval, this had become known during the consultations of the South Ossetian delegation with officials in Russia.
