Statement of the Action Group of the Moscow Ossetians

February 16 Council of the Moscow Ossetian community announced its decision, which reads as follows: "We are appealing to all the Ossetians in Moscow to take part in a demonstration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in support of the demand to recognize the genocide of the Ossetian people under the regime of Gamsakhurdia - Saakashvili from 1990 to 2008."

Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Republic of South Ossetia has recently expressed its negative attitude to the meeting of the head of the Georgian Orthodox Church with several ethnic Ossetians in Moscow. This is a provocative act and is the first step to implement the policy of the Georgian authorities to create a "democratic" image of the present-day Georgia, as well as the shifting of blame for crimes against the people of South Ossetia on Saakashvili.

Against the background of warming the Russian-Georgian relations are growing moods of anxiety in Ossetia, the risks of losing the national sovereignty. The situation is stirred up by a statement of Ivanishvili on non-use of force in addressing the issue, but reckon on public diplomacy, the evidence of which is a friendly meeting of the Georgian Patriarch with the Moscow Ossetians, free medical assistance to the people of South Ossetia in the Tbilisi hospitals, growing shuttle trade, travel of the Ossetians from South Ossetia and North Ossetia – Alania to Georgia on vacation, including to play in local casinos, plans to restore the Ergneti market, etc.

Memorable events dedicated to the Afghan war veterans have been held in South Ossetia

Memorable events in celebration of the anniversary of the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan have been arranged in Tskhinval:solemn laying of flowers and wreaths at the Memorial to the Afghan soldiers in the northern part of the town (district of Bam) and at the memorial cemetery chapel in the yard of the school № 5. The ceremony was attended by the leadership of South Ossetia headed by President Leonid Tibilov, Speaker of the Parliament Stanislav Kochiev, representatives of the Russian FSS Border Control Agency, the Fourth Military Base of the RF Defense Ministry, members of the Afghan War Veterans Union, relatives of the fallen Afghans, teachers and pupils of the boarding school in Tskhinval.
