President Anatoly Bibilov has got acquainted with the conditions of service of border guards on the section of the South Ossetian-Georgian border near the settlement of Uista (Tsnelis), the press service of the head of state reported.

The Supreme Commander-in-Chief, accompanied by Oleg Siukaev, Head of the Znaur District Administration, Oleg Shiran, Chairman of the State Security Committee, and Valery Alikhanty, Acting Head of the KGB Border Service, visited a border post on the border with Georgia.

The State Security Committee of South Ossetia issued a message on Wednesday, which notes the emerging threats to security in the sanitary-epidemiological and economic spheres of the Republic.

“In particular, cases of infection with African swine fever (ASF) are recorded in all regions of South Ossetia. At the same time, it is known about the death of domestic animals from brucellosis and ASF in the Sachkhere municipality of Georgia bordering South Ossetia.

Foreign Minister of South Ossetia Dmitry Medoev has received the Ambassador of Abkhazia to the Republic Alan Elbakiev, the press service of the Foreign Ministry reported.

"During the conversation, the parties exchanged views on the state and prospects for the further development of the South Ossetian-Abkhazian relations, which contribute to strengthening friendship between the two countries and peoples, and also discussed some topical issues on the regional and international agenda," the message reads.

The people of South Ossetia can continue to firmly count on Russia's help, Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev said on Tuesday at the meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic to the Russian Federation Znaur Gassiev.

February 1 is the Day of Science in South Ossetia. The holiday was established on February 4, 2014. Prior to this, Science Day was celebrated on February 8, as in Russia. The date of February 1 was chosen in connection with a significant event: on February 1, 1922, the "Scientific and Literary Society" was created - the first scientific institution in South Ossetia.
