A solemn mourning ceremony at the memorial complex "Defenders of South Ossetia" was held on Sunday in Tskhinval in memory of the victims of the war 08.08.08.

After August 2008, the action was held annually on the central square of the capital of the Republic, on the stairs in front of the parliament building, where the concert of maestro Valery Gergiev was held in 2008, this year the commemorative event was moved to the territory of the new memorial complex "Defenders of South Ossetia".

President Alan Gagloev met with a delegation of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania headed by Parliament Speaker Alexei Machnev, who arrived in Tskhinval to take part in the commemorative events dedicated to the 14th anniversary of the August 2008 war.

For the South Ossetian part, the meeting was also attended by the head of the Pesidential Alan Executive Office Alan Dzhioev, Speaker of the Parliament Alan Tadtaev and the first Deputy Chairman of the Parliament Peter Gassiev.

The memory of those killed as a result of Georgia's armed aggression against South Ossetia in August 2008 will be commemorated in Tskhinval. On the 15th anniversary of the war, at the National Museum will be opened a photo exhibition "08.08.08 - 08.08.23" and the play about the Ossetian genocide in 1920, "The Last Witness," will be shown at the State Drama Theatre, the Republic's Ministry of Culture told IA "Res".

Olga Chibirova, a resident of Tskhinval, cannot forget the summer of 2008 to this day, because the five-day war left a huge imprint on her health. It was on these days, after sitting all day in the well, she got a leg disease and today she can hardly move.

As the eyewitness of the events of 08.08.08 is recalling, on the night of August 7-8, when the Georgian aggressors attacked the sleeping city, Chibirova was at home alone. Her son was fighting, and her grandchildren were sent to North Ossetia.

A student of St. Petersburg State University, a young performer from South Ossetia Oleg Pliev took part in the art cluster Tavrida. Pliev told reporters about the forum of young cultural and art workers "Tavrida - 2022" and shared his plans for the future.

The photo exhibition "Thank you, Russia!" dedicated to the 14th anniversary of the start of Georgia's military aggression against South Ossetia will be held in the capital of South Ossetia. This was reported to IA “Res” by director of the National Museum of the Republic Merab Zasseev.
