Edaurd Kokoity: 26 August 2008 was the day when I achieved the goal of my life

The president of the Republic of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity participated in the program "Expertise" of the radio-station "Golos Rossii" (voice of Russia). During live broadcast from Tskhinval, the second anniversary of the Russian Federation's recognition of the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia was discussed.
While responding to the question of the presenter about the feelings Eduard Kokoity had on 26 August 2008, the president said that the day he achieved the goal of his life, the goal that the South Ossetian people aimed at throughout many years.

Media Center "IR" launches journalist contest

The South Ossetian Media-Center "IR" launched a journalist contest for best coverage of Russian-South Ossetia cooperation. As the Media Center President Irina Gagloeva reported to IA RES, the purpose of the contest is to activate the participation of printed media in covering public opinion on priority issues in Russian-South Ossetia cooperation.

In relation to the second anniversary of the Russian Federation's recognition of the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia

On 26 August 2010, celebrations devoted to the second anniversary of the Russian Federation's recognition of the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia are taking place in South Ossetia. For the Republic of South Ossetia the day of 26 August 2008 has certainly become extremely important. 20 years of struggle for independence and freedom preceded this remarkable date and turning-point. During the Barbarian attack of Georgia against peaceful Tskhinval on 7-8 August 2008 leading to casualties among innocent people, the actions of Russia in forcing the aggressor to peace helped preventing further bloodshed and contributed to normalization of the situation. The decision of the Russian leadership to recognize the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia was the only right one, which established the security of the people of South Ossetia. Russian-South Ossetian relations have a long and rich history. Our peoples are united with spiritual and cultural closeness, with feelings of mutual understanding and striving for close relations and cooperation. This deep-rooted mutual sympathy remained unchanged in all times and throughout any historical changes.

South Ossetia sends humanitarian aid to homeless fire victims in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast in the Russian Federation

Today, 26 August, humanitarian aid was sent from the Republic of South Ossetia to Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, RF. The humanitarian load was delivered to North Ossetia, and from there, to the final destination. “Today, we are sending humanitarian aid to Nizhny Novgorod Oblast to all those affected by forest fires”, reported Advisor to the President of South Ossetia on social policy Nigzar Gabaraev at the delivery point in North Ossetia-Alania.

South Ossetia is getting prepared for the celebration of recognition by Russia

South Ossetia is getting prepared for the celebrations of the Day of the Republic's Recognition by the Russian Federation. As South Ossetian President's Advisor for State and International Protocol Zhanna Zasseeva reported to IA RES, celebrations devoted to the Day of South Ossetia's Recognition would be held in Tskhinval. She noted that the events would start on 25 August. "This day, the International Association of Ossetian Communities "Vozrozhdenie" (revival) will hold a conference on "Recognition of the independence and new horizons in the development of South Ossetia".

Domenty Kulumbegov: The Inter-Agency Humanitarian Action to Help in Rehabilitation of South Ossetia

Over 15 Russian ministries and governmental agencies are participants to the Inter-Agency Humanitarian Action (IAHA). As Deputy Prime Minister Domenty Kulumbegov told IA RES, each of the agencies assess the situation to identify problems and make plans for the problem settlement. "Similar actions bring hope to hearts of the Republic's residents, they help in revival of the state and settlement of problems in the social, cultural and other spheres", underlined Kulumbegov.

Vadim Brovtsev Pays a Visit to Znaur District of South Ossetia

The Prime Minister of South Ossetia Vadim Brovtsev paid a visit to Znaur district of the Republic. He Deputy Prime Minister Domenty Kulumbegov, Head of Znaur District Administration Zaur Tskhovrebov and Diresctor of "Energoresurs" state energy and water company Alan Gabaraev accompanied the Prime Minister in his visit.
The Prime Minister saw the rehabilitation works at reconstruction sites, including the reconstruction at two schools, a kindergarten, district administrative building and Znaur library. Brovtsev has also visited the newly constructed building of Fire Station.

The Government of South Ossetia starts its work on the 2011 budget

The Prime Minister of South Ossetia Vadim Brovtsev held a session with ministers and heads of governmental agencies. The discussion focused on the issues related to the 2011 state budget. The Finance Minister Irina Sytnik informed the attending officials on the budget planning status. He reminded that according to the legislature of South Ossetia, the next year’s budget planning should start 7 months prior to the start of the year. “We have already set up terms of reference and timing of the budget planning tasks.

Elbrus Kargiev: From 2011, Russia to Focus on Revival of the Economy in South Ossetia

Russia together with the state authorities of South Ossetia actively participates in all economic and social processes taking place in the Republic, Ambassador of Russia in South Ossetia Elbrus Kargiev told IA RES. According to him, Russian annually allocates over 3 billion RUB for the budget of South Ossetia to support the state structures and cover the state budget expenses. “Along with this, right after the August aggression, 10 billion RUB were allocated for rehabilitation in social and communal sectors. While this work is ongoing, contacts are maintained with relevant structures, representatives of the Audit Chamber visit South Ossetia to carry out control over the implementation”, said Ambassador. He reminded that on 30 July 2010, during the visit of the first Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Igor Shuvalov to South Ossetia, it was possible to discuss and clarify the gaps in the interaction and focus on the settlement of issues.

Georgian Aggression Chronicle: 8 August 2008

00:06 – Heavy artillery shelling from the Georgian villages of Nikozi and Ergneti, as well as from the Georgian city of Gori, targeted at the capital city of the Republic of South Ossetia, Tskhinval, has begun. Ossetian villages of Dmenis, Sarabuk, Satikar, Tsunar, Khetagurovo, Velit, Mugut, Didmukha, Znaur, Galuanta and others are also under heavy shelling.
00:42 – Georgia has officially announced the war. The Commander of the Georgian peacekeepers Mamuka Kurashvili officially informs the Commander of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces (JPKF) in the conflict zone, Major-General Marat Kulakhmetov, that Georgia is starting its military operation in the zone of Georgian-Osseitan conflict to restore constitutional order in South Ossetia. He calls on the Russian peacekeepers deployed in the conflict zone not to interfere into the situation.
