President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov has received the Official Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic in Italy Mauro Murgia, who arrived as an international observer for the presidential elections.

Greeting the guest, Anatoly Bibilov noted Mauro Murgia's contribution to the development of bilateral relations and thanked him for advancing the interests of South Ossetia in Italy, the press service of the head of state reported.

President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov met with members of the delegation of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, headed by a member of the RF Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Sergei Tsekov, who arrived in the Republic as international observers for the presidential election, the press service of the head of state reported.

The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov.

South Ossetian President Anatoly Bibilov is confident that Georgia will not open a "second front" for Russia in South Ossetia, even under the US pressure, as this will cause serious problems for Tbilisi.

"I don't think that Georgia will succumb to the pressure that entails serious problems for Georgia itself. I see no reason why Georgia can open some kind of" second front, "he said in an interview with TASS, answering a relevant question. - It's, as they say, just shoot yourself in the foot and, in this case, maybe even in the head."

The ban on pre-election campaigning ahead of the April 10 presidential election came into force in South Ossetia on Saturday.

More than 60 international observers representing Russia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East, etc. will be following the voting process in South Ossetia in the Republic's presidential elections on Sunday, Kristina Avlokhova, Secretary of the Central Election Commission of South Ossetia, told reporters.

"We have more than 60 people registered, some international observers have already arrived," the CEC Secretary said.

The incumbent President of South Ossetia, Anatoly Bibilov, called the expanded meeting of the action group on holding a referendum on South Ossetia's accession to Russia a significant historical event that the people of Ossetia have been waiting for 100 years.

Addressing the guests who are taking part in the event, Bibilov noted that "they came to South Ossetia as brothers, to support our aspiration to unite with Russia."

He addressed the people of South Ossetia with words of congratulations on the Constitution Day, which is being celebrated in the Republic today, April 8.
